“Well, the way of paradoxes is the way of truth. To test reality we must see it on the tight rope. When the verities become acrobats, we can judge them”
I never liked the circus. Ever since I was a child I was always the odd one out that never wanted to come along. The animals saddened me, the clowns never made me laugh & I found all other acts uninspiring. I still do.
However last night at the Nelson Mandela Forum in Florence, Cirque du Soleil startled me. The stage filled with incredibly disciplined performers making the impossible possible. They swung like feathers on ropes, drapes & hula-hoops moving with preposterous speed. Their elegant, elastic bodies made you watch breathlessly & seduced you into a fairytale like world. The velocity, the colours & the infinite energy of the performers made last night a world class act.
No animals but inspiring artists & uplifting comedians.
I had to shoot without flash & therefore decided to shoot blur pictures to give the feeling of motion & less detail creating some new shapes with light sources leaving stripes in the frame.
