“There are no lines in nature, only areas of colour, one against another”
I took this shot during the filming of a complex video. It was a beautiful Autumn day, the sun was shining and the air was crispy cold. We were surrounded by colour in a world full of nature. The grass was of the brightest green and the flowers yellow like the sun. A red blanket was draped for the models to sit on turning the mixture of colours into magic. The ladies with their perfect posture & red silky lips sat beautifully while poetically staring into nature. However looks are deceiving, as what they really watched, was their men gun fighting each other over love.

“It is only through mystery and madness that the soul is revealed” Thomas Moore. I love the mystery of working backstage. The excitement, accumulating stress & organized chaos of getting a photo shoot going. It is the madness that goes into setting up a studio & the preparation of getting the models to look like a million dollars. It’s never smooth, always too hot & the amount of people working, forevermore too many. But once the studio lights go off & the camera starts rolling the mystery unfolds… With my backstage pictures I tried to capture the craziness & engagement that this amazing group of people put into getting it perfectly right. This particular shot I took while the Creative Team of BH Hairdressing, Italy was working on their upcoming ICONE Collection at the Rai Studios in Rome. Great Team work, dazzling vibe & a fascinating final Collection, put together in just 1 week…
“Looking back, I guess I used to play-act all the time. For one thing, it meant I could live in a more interesting world than the one around me.”
Creating an atmosphere with the help of lights, special effects & sound is what makes photography even more exciting.
For those of you who know me, I have never been a big fan of fashion photography. A model moving in front of the camera doesn’t inspire me that much.
However, when the special effects come in my brain cells wake up with a bang.
I need the unexpected.
It helps me to be creative, to think different & to make a difference in my work.
Creating a fantasy IS the unexpected & I love, how, by just using moving backdrops & sounds an individual can become that fantasy.
For this job the film crew created effects that portrayed the BH Hairdressing Icone Collection best, a collection where we mixed the 60’s 70’s 80’s & 90’s Icone’s of music & television with todays modern society.
Bringing a fantasy into being is a challenge. But challenges make you think harder & grow stronger.
I shot these 3 pictures while they were still trying out.
The original pictures are in bright 70’s colours.
